bio-Jeremy Baarsma

Jeremy the fighter

Jeremy Baarsma began his training in Shaolin Kenpo in 1993 at the age of 5. Barely taller than a lawn gnome, Jeremy was always a fireball of energy and his kiai could be heard down the street.

Rarely does one so young take their training as seriously as Jeremy did and he progressed quickly. His father Ron made sure Jeremy made it to every class between 1993-1998. This little fireball was respectful to all the adult class members and entered many tournaments, usually coming away with a trophy despite the size disadvantage he faced in his age group.

When Mike Skinner Sr. departed Aberdeen Kenpo Karate to drive 18-wheeler, Jeremy's dad elected to stop bringing him to class. At the time, Jeremy held the rank of 1st Brown. At this juncture, Jeremy had trained non-stop for nearly 7 years.

Mike Skinner Sr. made the decision to personally visit the Baarsma family and present Jeremy with a Black Belt certificate in 1999 based upon his dedication, drive, and character. Jeremy went on to have a successful high school wrestling career. Jeremy has also obtained a college degree.

To date, Jeremy one of only two individuals (Matt Skinner was the other) to receive his Black Belt under
the age of 18 from any version of Aberdeen Kenpo Karate.
